This work uses a variety of integrated materials and media to show the symbiotic relationship between the traces of human industrialization and nature.
Over the past hundred years, humans have used various industrial materials such as concrete, steel, and plastic to build and develop more durable and expansive living spaces. The traces of human industrialization have taken root in all corners of the world. In building, using, and abandoning, people have transformed the natural landscape and left indelible traces. When humans leave, these traces become part of nature. The original ecology returns and flourishes again, becoming a unique natural landscape mixed with industrialization.
In this work, soil and wheat are placed in acrylic boxes as a landscape, and Yuan uses a special plastic to make the top of the box and heat it to shape it into unique patterns. She polishes out the layers of plywood and creates a texture that matches the pattern of the box. Hand-cut mirrors on the floor resemble a river flowing through the ground. A screen is placed at the bottom of the acrylic box, showing footage of the abandoned landscape, playing the sounds of nature. As you approach, you can see the images on the screen through the reflections in the mirror.
